Pascal Maitre was born in Buzancais in 1955 in France. `

After studying psychology, he starts his carrier as photojournalist with the Jeune Afrique press group.

In 1984, he joins the Gamma staff. In 1989, he cofounds the Odyssey Images agency. From 1995 to 2018 he was represented by Cosmos.

He is currently represented by Myop for France and Panos for International.

He has worked with many prestigious international magazines: Figaro Magazine, Geo, L’Express, Paris Match in France, Geo, Stern, Brigitt in Germany, National Geographic in the USA…

In 2000, he publishes « My Africa », a book which compiles 15 years of his work on this continent, with Aperture in the USA and Geo in Germany. In September 2001, the French version is released by Vents de Sable editions and a book on « Madagascar, a unique world » as a result of his many trips to the island.

In 2012 he publishes Amazing Africa , a book with compiles of 30 years of his work on Africa with ed Lammerhuber and Unesco.

Pascal Maitre has worked on over 40 countries in Africa, while tackling many different aspects, men and their way of life, politics, conflicts, tradition, environement.

Since 1985, he has covered Afghanistan: the Mujahidin against the Russian, clan war in Kabul in 1992, Bamiyan and the Great Buddha’s in 1996, Afghanistan and its main characteristics after the rise of the Taliban in November 1996, Massoud military leader of the northern alliance in December 1998, looting of the Kabul museum and the afghan treasures in July 2000, the Pashtuns from the east, 2018 Kaboul, 2019 The Buzkashi , 2020 with the Talibans.
